Organised under the auspices of the 2014 Presidency of the Community of Ariane Cities (CVA), this event is held by Salon-de-Provence from 6th to 8th of November, in partnership with the École de l’Air.

This event is intended for company representatives, members of the CVA network, elected representatives and employees of local and regional authorities in the PACA region, students and more broadly members of the public interested in space activity and its potential benefits for companies and society generally.

To present the results of the project, that is finishing this year 2014, they organised the final conference the 19th September in Brussels.

The director of the Chamber of Commerce, who led the project in collaboration with Terrassa City Council, presented the conclusions of the activities organised by the network.

The consortium is composed by 13 partners from 10 countries,
covering an area of 747 IVET schools, 228.586 IVET students and
733.488 companies.
The network’s members are coordinating organizations bringing a
critical mass of high quality host companies. At our seem, this is
one of the best ways to put trainees/apprentices and host
companies from different and distant countries in contact, to raise
awareness, to facilitate mobilities, to ensure quality and to follow
up, acting as coordinating organizations for both sending trainees
and for receiving foreign ones to be hosted at local companies.


The Réseau Art Nouveau Network has been approved for certification as a Council of Europe Cultural Route by the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes (EPA), following the final defense which took place on 11 April 2014 in Luxembourg.

The city of Terrassa is a partner of this network, a common initiative which, besides the co-financing of the European Commission of four successive European projects, obtained an international recognition of its 14 years of cooperation by receiving the jury’s special mention of the Europa Nostra awards 2013 and becoming a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe in 2014.

Organised by the Réseau Art Nouveau Network in the framework of the European project “Art Nouveau & Ecology” (2010-2015) supported by the Culture 2007-2013 programme of the European Commission, The exhibition “The Nature of Art Nouveau” was presented in Terrassa at the Sala Muncunill in the framework of its Modernist Fair. This exhibition is free and bilingual Catalan-English and it will finish the 13rd of July.


Between 3rd and 4th April the Metropolitan Areas Seminar was held at Don Candido Hotel in Terrassa. 

Terrassa, in cooperation with 10 municipalities which are part of their urban system, organized the seminar in which there were participants of 11 cities of 10 European countries:  BrabanStad (Holland), Bratislava (Slovakia), Brno (Czech Republic), Grenoble (France), Lille (France), Oslo (Norway), Preston (United Kingdom), Rennes (France), Warsaw (Poland), Zurich (Switzerland).

The seminar aimed at exchanging experiences and knowledge in order to improve the management of Metropolitan Areas and the city systems, as well as rising the opportunity to obtain a major influential capacity in European urban policies, which have a direct impact on citizens and municipalities, through EUROCITIES network.

On 3rd and 4th April EUROCITIES network and the City Council of Terrassa, as host city, will organize a seminar about metropolitan areas with the participation of representatives from the cities of Zurich, Preston, Warsaw, Rennes, Oslo, BrabanStad, Lille, Grenoble, Brno and Bratislava.

The seminar is part of the work that the city of Terrassa and its Urban System (whose cities also are going to participate) are developing in the Metropolitan Areas Working Group of the Economic Development Forum of EUROCITIES.
Projects about territorial cooperation, cohesion policy and governance policy in metropolitan areas will be discussed.

Terrassa takes a step forward to position the city as a University City in the European scenario in order to promote its University Campus among the cities of the network.

EUniverCities is a European network, launched in 2012, in which ten medium sized cities as well as universities (working in tandems) work together in order to give knowledge cities more visibility within Europe. The network aims to exchange and spread the knowledge, expertise and experience about city-university cooperation across urban Europe. The network has been inspired by the current EU2020 Strategy on Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth attributes great importance to knowledge, innovation and technology.



The European Commission hosts a main forum and a series of side events to debate how Member States and EU institutions should work together to ensure that cities play their full role in European development –and that their needs are fully reflected in policy thinking.

The Hellenic Presidency’s priorities reflect the needs and concerns of all European citizens: growth and jobs, with a focus on alleviating unemployment – particularly among the young – and boosting job-creating investments in the real economy; deepening European and Eurozone economic governance, which means working towards implementation of the agreement on the banking union and pursuing the European deposit guarantee scheme; and security of our common borders, including policies and initiatives for confronting illegal migration, as well as for promoting growth-oriented mobility within an area of freedom, security and justice.

Terrassa is one of the 5 Spanish cities that will receive Technical Assistance by EEEF (European Energy Efficiency Fund) to support project development activities for the energy efficiency programmes to help to achieve 20/20/20 goals. Technical Assistance aims at developing the potential of public authorities to accelerate their investments in the fields of renewable energy, clean urban transportation and energy upgrades of the public infrastructure and at presenting the projects at a later stage to eeef for financing. The public authorities have elaborated comprehensive investment programmes embracing various measures in total reaching €100m that are to be launched for public tender in the cause of the next year. The renovations are scheduled to start from the mid of 2014 onwards. The authorities plan to conduct renovation of up to 100,000 street lighting points and generate 7,942Mwh in renewable energy for own use. The CO2 savings resulting from the energy efficient renovations are estimated to reach more than 25,000tons per year.

The Culture Forum took place on 16-18 October 2013 in Gdansk, Poland.

The theme of the meeting was ‘New trends in cities’ cultural strategies ‘and topics covered included:
– New governance models
– New finance models and the new roles of cities’ administrations
– Cross sectoral planning and cooperation between cities in a metropolitan area

Under the title ‘New Trends in Cities’ Cultural Strategies’ the Gdansk Forum was a
meeting place and interactive platform to exchange approaches and experiences on
challenges currently faced by cities’ cultural strategies and policies.

Terrassa took part in the session about new governance models, with a presentation of the city and its cultural potencialities as well as the process of the White Paper on Culture.


EUROCITIES is the network of the main European cities. Founded in 1986, the network includes more than 130 municipalities from 30 European countries and is organised into topic forums and work groups. The Terrassa City Council, through the European and International Relations Service, has been a member from 2003 to 2008 (without vote at the assembly) and has participated in two forums, that of Economic Development and that of the Knowledge Society.
Terrassa and its urban system are full members of the network since January 2009.
The Terrassa metropolitan area is made up of the towns of Castellbisbal, Matadepera, Rellinars, Rubi, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Llorenç Savall, Sant Quirze del Vallès, Terrassa, Ullastrell, Vacarisses and Viladecavalls and has a population of more than 400,000 inhabitants. The eleven (11) municipalities have agreed to their combined candidacy by signing an agreement, according to which the Terrassa City Council’s European and International Relations Service will handle and coordinate the participation of the metropolitan area in the network.  The Terrassa metropolitan area will participate in EUROCITIES as a single member will speak with a single voice and will have a single vote in the General Assembly.
