EUROCITIES is the network of the main European cities. Founded in 1986, the network includes more than 130 municipalities from 30 European countries and is organised into topic forums and work groups. The Terrassa City Council, through the European and International Relations Service, has been a member from 2003 to 2008 (without vote at the assembly) and has participated in two forums, that of Economic Development and that of the Knowledge Society.
Terrassa and its urban system are full members of the network since January 2009.
The Terrassa metropolitan area is made up of the towns of Castellbisbal, Matadepera, Rellinars, Rubi, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Llorenç Savall, Sant Quirze del Vallès, Terrassa, Ullastrell, Vacarisses and Viladecavalls and has a population of more than 400,000 inhabitants. The eleven (11) municipalities have agreed to their combined candidacy by signing an agreement, according to which the Terrassa City Council’s European and International Relations Service will handle and coordinate the participation of the metropolitan area in the network.
