The mayor of Terrassa, Jordi Ballart, accompanied by the bishop of the Diocese of Terrassa, Mons. Salvador Cristau, have asked Pope Francis for his support in the candidacy of the Seu d’Ègara as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in an official audience at the Vatican.
The mayor and the bishop have given the Pope a memorandum with contents related to the artistic and architectural heritage of the Seu d’Ègara, its uniqueness in relation to the era to which it belongs and its history of more than fifteen centuries , in addition to the watercolor of the Seu d’Ègara by the renowned artist and watercolorist Robert Cabeza from Terrassa and a reproduction of the church of Santa Maria, which preserves the remains of the Ègara cathedral.

The Holy Father has taken an interest in the monumental complex, its history and its management and has shown his support for the candidacy. For the mayor, Jordi Ballart: “The hearing is a turning point for the Candidature of the Seu d’Ègara to be part of Unesco’s World Heritage. Receiving the Pope’s blessing encourages us to continue our task as a city to ensure that the Monumental Complex of Seu d’Ègara ends up becoming a World Heritage Site. Now we will continue to work harder than ever to finish preparing the definitive dossier that we will present in 2025”.
The City Council and the Diocese of Terrassa thus initiate a series of contacts with different local and international institutions to continue the promotion and advancement of the candidacy of the Seu d’Ègara to be recognized as a World Heritage Site.
The bishop, Salvador Cristau, thanked the Pope “for wanting to receive us and for the interest he has had in this project. Thanks to the existing good institutional collaboration, the Candidature is moving forward, and in Rome we have demonstrated this once again.’
