The Europe Challenge is an annual program born in 2020, together with the European Cultural Foundation to join libraries from all around Europe and to create an exchange network to work together and share ideas and creative solutions to improve democratic participation and the social and environmental well-being of the city.

The network of European cities, EUROCITIES promoted the participation among its members and Terrassa sent its candidacy last October. The European Cultural Foundation has positively evaluated the project of Terrassa’s libraries, which works for social inclusion and the labor development of people with intellectual disability to enhance their autonomy, inclusion, and well-being.

The councilor of Cultural and Audiovisual Promotion, Rosa Boladeras, explains: “This new program continues with the task what we are trying to do in the city lately, to also apply the GAS seal (Gender, Accessibility, Sustainability) in all the initiatives the council is driving. The libraries have ceased to be study or query spaces, to be dynamic centers where happen lots of things and it is essential to continue working to be able to guarantee that everyone can access it without any kind of distinction”

The Network of Public Libraries of Terrassa (Xarxa BCT) will work along with Fundació President Amat Roumens (LAFact), with whom it has an agreement. The mission of the public library is to guarantee access to culture, lectures, information, and non-regulated training to everyone democratically and under equal conditions. To achieve it, it is necessary to work with certain sectors of the population that have fewer opportunities to make this equity a reality.
