From November 28 to December 1, the World Culture Summit of the United Cities and Local Governments network takes place in the city of Dublin. With the title “Culture. Future. Goal. We act: bringing local visions to the global sphere”, the summit is the global meeting point for cities, local governments and key players committed to the effective implementation of policies and programs on culture and sustainability.

Rosa Boladeras, the councilor for Cultural Promotion and International Relations, together with Carles Sánchez, the director of the Candidature of the Seu d’Ègara to UNESCO’s World Heritage have taken part in a session dedicated to Cultural Heritage.

During three days, the participants emphasized the importance of culture as a fundamental part of sustainable cities, to promote the exchange of experiences and projects between cities around the world, paying special attention to the design of cultural policies to deal with the climate emergency, the connection between culture and gender equality, as well as the role of cultural rights in addressing the challenge of growing inequalities in our society.

The Summit contemplates four axes to follow, where through debates, examples, projects already done or to be done, implemented policies or programs, the cities present what they have done and want to continue doing in the coming years.

Terrassa took part in the table entitled “Heritage for today and tomorrow” with a presentation of the city’s strategic priorities in cultural heritage, including the Candidature of the Seu d’Ègara to be part of Unesco’s World Heritage. The main lines of the Strategic Heritage Plan and the GAS seal (Genders, Accessibility and Sustainability) were also exposed as examples of the city’s commitment to the development of cultural policies in line with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. In addition, the city has shared a table with experts in the field of heritage and cultural policies from the cities of Malmö (Sweden), Xi’an (China) and ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites).

Acording to the councilor for Cultural Promotion and International Relations, Rosa Boladeras, «being participants of this World Culture Summit is an opportunity to demonstrate and get to know la Seu d’Egara to the world and establish alliances to acquire that the Monumental Complex can become a Unesco World Heritage Site. In addition, it is a good opportunity to learn about other projects and contribute to promote more sustainable, accessible and egalitarian cities».
