On Thursday, October 17, in the Hall of Sessions of the Terrassa City Council, took place the official ceremony of the Europe Prize 2024, the highest recognition that a European city can receive for its commitment and its actions in the European scope. The award was presented by the president of the Subcommittee on the Europe Prize of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Christian Petry. The ceremony was attended by councilors and members of the municipal groups, as well as representatives of the city’s socio-economic agents. The program of the ceremony included a concert by Eir Grup Vocal.

The event was also attended by eight members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), as well as the ambassador of Bosnia Herzegovina, Vesna Andree Zaimovic, the consul emeritus of Bosnia Herzegovina, Ramon Jufresa, the consul of cultural affairs of the Consulate of Mexico in Barcelona, ​​José Antonio Mendoza, the president of the Catalan Council of the European Movement and former representative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Jordi Xuclà, the head of the European Parliament in Barcelona, ​​Sergi Barrera, representatives of the Department of External Action of the Generalitat of Catalonia, in addition to elected officials such as the mayor of Matadepera, Guillem Montagut, and the twinned cities, such as Pamiers and Tetuan.

The Europe Prize, awarded annually by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, is awarded to cities and municipalities that stand out for their commitment to Europe; twinning activities; their exchanges in the fields of education, culture and sport; its organization of European events; their affiliation to international organizations of cities, and their solidarity initiatives. The Award was announced on April 17, as part of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. Terrassa had been selected as a candidate city for this year’s 2024 edition, along with the municipalities of Rambouillet (France), Bamberg (Germany) and Formigine (Italy).

Terrassa City Council, through the International Relations Service, works transversally with other municipal services in order to promote collaborations with other European cities and participate in funding programs of the European Commission. The city stands out for its important track record in raising European funds as well as the promotion of transnational cooperation exchanges through networks of cities such as Eurocities or through participation in the commissions of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
